Front and center in the unmanned aviation industry in 2018 is the "B" word. The single most important regulatory advance to accelerate commercial operations is the promise of BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line Of Site).

Whilst we see routine BVLOS operations in the military there are currently only a few very carefully managed commercial BVLOS flights undertaken legally in the UK and Europe. The challenges facing regulators, hardware/software vendors and commercial operators are considerable but the race towards a safe, unified airspace is well and truly underway.

The conference was full of informed presentations and discussions covering everything from technology, insurance, UTM (Unmanned Traffic Management) and one thing is clear, the UK and Europe can lead in this area, we have the appetite, the agility and the expertise.

Thanks to all the contributors particularly CAA, NATS and RAS.
