Orthophotos are a geometrically corrected or “ortho-rectified” image file that are similar to what you might find on Google Earth. However, orthophotos provide a far superior spatial and temporal resolution than satellite imagery - ideal for assessing sites and monitoring change.

The example below shows a 2km stretch of beach on the south coast. This site has been surveyed monthly during the construction of a coastal defence scheme. The orthophoto is used to track construction progress and look at the wider coastal processes that are occurring as a result of beach nourishment on the foreshore.

Crossrail
The requirement here was to produce highly accurate data for planning and setting out across the key supply site at C610 and to explore the potential uses of 3d mesh models in partnership with Bentley context capture and Costain. Data was used every day by all the teams involved at Plumstead and still continues to be used as development continues.

Orthophoto Resolution   

When flying at 120m, our orthophotos will have a resolution of 3cm per pixel. The lower the flight height, the higher the resolution. Where detail is key, such as looking for defects in assets, we can produce orthophotos with sub-centimetre pixel resolutions.

We acquire, process and deliver accurate, high resolution orthophotos for use in AutoCAD and GIS software packages. As part of the same drone survey, we can also provide the following outputs:

  • Point cloud .LAS or similar
  • Digital elevation models (DEM)
  • Digital terrain models (DTM)
