Our LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) mapping capabilities allow us to record asset condition and map vegetated sites. With the ability to 'see beneath' vegetation, our surveys deliver consistent high quality terrain data.

This method of capturing data works very differently to photogrammetry. By firing hundreds of thousands of laser pulses every second, the LiDAR sensor is able to record the time it takes for the pulses to bounce off a surface and return to the sensor. This is combined with a highly accurate GPS and IMU onboard the drone to create a point cloud that is recorded in 3D space.

LiDAR has historically been limited in only being able to view the data by elevation, the addition of a RGB camera allows our point clouds to be coloured - increasing the potential applications for the dataset.

Crossrail
The requirement here was to produce highly accurate data for planning and setting out across the key supply site at C610 and to explore the potential uses of 3d mesh models in partnership with Bentley context capture and Costain. Data was used every day by all the teams involved at Plumstead and still continues to be used as development continues.

LiDAR DELIVERABLES

We acquire, process and deliver a broad range of digital outputs from our LiDAR surveys, here are a few common examples:

  • Point cloud .LAS or similar (with vegetation filtered out)
  • Orthomosaic imagery (GeoTIFF) or similar
  • Digital elevation models (DEM)
  • Digital terrain models (DTM)
